Taproot Farm is very happy to have Joshua Stainthorp joining the team as our 2014 full-time Farm Apprentice.
We first met Josh in 2011 when he drove all the way from Kennesaw, Georgia, for our natural building workshops. Everyone admired his meticulous carpentry skills, artistic eye and sweet sense of humor.
Since those days, he has visited the farm on his way up to New England for Permaculture training and down to Mexico to help on a farm (and practice his Spanish).
Everyone who knows Josh just loves his easy-going attitude and Can-Do spirit. And Taproot Farm is looking forward to seeing what special "signature" this natural artist adds to the farm during his stay.
Most of all, Josh loves to have his hands in the soil. In addition to running his own small business growing and selling organic food at a farmer's market in Georgia, Josh is passionate about Permaculture- an integrated, self-sustaining system of perennial agriculture....a living clockwork that should never run down.
And this is exactly the direction in which our farm is ready to grow. With Josh's help we will be designing and planting a 3-acre "Food Forest" and integrating sustainable Permaculture practices throughout every aspect of the farm.
So, stay tuned... it should be a wonderful year of healthy food and learning for the whole community!
Welcome aboard, Josh!
One of Josh's coolest traits is the way he can "doodle" his way to a deeper understanding after listening to or reading about something. These sketches and visual "ponderings" seem to break open the meaning of something complex- like natural systems- eliciting an "ah hah" from the viewer.
One of his teachers even asked to use Josh's class "notes" in their curriculum, because his doodles explained the concepts so well.
